Hashim Benford, Miami Workers Center
Hashim is a Community Organizer with Miami Workers Center, a strategy and action center for low-income black and Latino communities and Miami-Dade County. Miami Workers Center has won $15 million in low-income housing support, saved 900 affordable homes from destruction, and won a landmark affordable housing and community development agreement with Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez for the redevelopment of 850 homes destroyed by the failed Scott Carver HOPE VI project. Hashim is currently working with the MWC grassroots project LIFFT (Low-Income Families Fighting Together). He is graduate of Florida International University, where he earned a BA in Sociology/Anthropology and an undergraduate certificate in Women's Studies.
